The Dogwood Cross®
If anyone wishes to come after Me,
let him deny himself
and take up his cross and follow Me.
The Legend of the Dogwood Tree
There is a legend that the dogwood tree was chosen as the timber for the cross of Jesus' crucifixion.
At that time it grew large and as strong and straight as an oak.
To be used for such a purpose was terrible for the tree.
It can never be used as a cross again because now it is small, slender and bent.
It's blossoms form a cross, two long petals and two short.
On the outer edge of each petal are blood stains and nail holes.
In the middle of the blossom is a crown of thorns.
When we see it we remember how Jesus dies on the cross for us.
